Why invest in a statement necklace

1. Statement necklaces make a great talking point

“I love pieces that are also conversation starters.”
Garance Doré, French photographer and fashion blogger

A job interview, networking event, social occasion with lots of new faces or a first date can all be made easier by a great statement necklace to create a focal point for your outfit and help to get the conversation started.

My Bee necklaces were inspired by poet Carol Ann Duffy’s poem ‘Bees’ – the wings fall apart when inverted to represent the lotus flower in Duffy’s poem. The necklace always makes a great talking point.

2. The right statement necklace is timeless so can be a great investment

“I treat clothing or a piece of jewellery like it was a piece of art, even though people who collect clothes get a bad rap because they're told it's all vanity.”
Daphne Guinness, English artist

I’ve had one of my Baroque Collar necklaces for several years and I’ve been pleased about how versatile it has proved to be – it works equally well dressed up or down. When I designed the necklace I wanted to create a striking, theatrical, ornate and intricate piece so I took my inspiration from the ruffs and lace collars of historical costumes. I wanted the lacy design to be contemporary but with a nod to the past.

3. A statement necklace gives a focal point to your outfit and helps to draw the eye

“If I'm not feeling super confident about an outfit or I’m a little insecure I'll probably accessorize my outfit with some jewellery.”
Amber Le Bon, English model

One of the things I love about having my jewellery shop in Tunbridge Wells is watching people’s reactions when they try on jewellery – it’s wonderful to see people looking pleased at they look at their reflection in the mirror. My Petal necklace is one that's really worth trying on as it sits just so.

4. A statement necklace is the perfect way to update a capsule wardrobe

“A statement necklace glams up any outfit without feeling like too much.”
    Tracy Reese, American designer

A low drop necklace can be so versatile – you can wear a design such as Phish Drop necklace or Universal Chain with a low neckline for a modern, sensual evening look but they also work really well worn casually over your favourite jumper or dress to instantly lift the look.

    5. A statement necklace can instantly make you feel put together and ‘done’

“Jewellery is like the perfect spice – it always complements what's already there.”
      Diane Von Furstenberg, American designer

Jewellery is often thought of as a finishing touch to complete an outfit. I’m often inspired by nature in my designs and really like the way wearing something with a nod to nature can make you feel. Take a look at The Lost Happy Endings necklace inspired by the poetry of Carol Ann Duffy.

      6. The right design of statement necklace can shine a flattering light on your face

I created a gold-plated silver collar necklace for Qi’ra, Emilia Clarke’s character in the recent Star Wars film, Solo. The pristine gold surface shone a really flattering light on Emilia’s complexion. I’ll be launching this new design of collar necklace that has a similar effect very soon.

        7. A statement necklace can create a memorable impression

"Jewellery has the power to be this one little thing that can make you feel unique."
Jennie Kwon, American designer and violinist

I’ve been playing around with a new snake design – I wasn’t sure it was going to work but I was actually really pleased with the way the snakes sit. It was inspired by the designs I did for the Harry Potter Slytherin jewellery that made me think of a snake dragon cross and so I created this necklace design inspired by the Slytherin snakes but this time crossed with a flobberworm. A flobberworm is another fantastical beast from Harry Potter – ten inches long and a herbivore!

I love working with birthstones to give a necklace meaning and individuality. I introduced my Pollen Pod collection so that you can design your own necklace – choose the shapes, the stones, the metal and the combination to create something that’s unique to you.
