How to pick the perfect jewellery gift - a bookish guide
I've put together a gift guide inspired by book characters which I hope you will enjoy.
The perfect gift for a practical, clever friend of loved one
Kiss Cross Pendant
I was inspired by Elizabeth Zott from 'Lessons in Chemistry' (which I'd highly recommend reading if you haven't already). The shape reminded me of a chain of molecules but also a family tree, and even a rowing boat from above which were all pivotal in the story. The kisses also represent Elizabeth's love for Calvin and her daughter.
A gift for a history-loving intellectual
Small Baroque Earrings
Next up was another Elizabeth - this time Elizabeth Flynn the therapist and art historian wife of protagonist Campbell Flynn in Andrew O'Hagan's 'Caledonian Road'. I think she'd appreciate these Baroque Earrings that were inspired by antique lace. Campbell Glyn was an art historian and expert in Dutch masters so I thought he'd appreciate this design. They are a nod to her aristocratic background - I thought Elizabeth Flynn had some of the best lines in the book.
A present for a dear friend
Two Part Heart Necklace
I devoured Catherine Newman's 'We All Want Impossible Things' on holiday this year. I thought this Two Part Heart Necklace was perfect for best-friends Edi and Ash - a reminder that whatever happens that kind of friendship will last forever.
Gift for the spiritual and mystic
Astral Pendant
I thought it would be fun to include a classic in the blog and a personal favourite has always been C.S. Lewis' 'The Lion Witch and the Wardrobe'. If you are looking for a gift for someone who is spiritual then I was inspired by the White Witch who I think would suit my Silver Astral Pendant. It's strong and powerful but also reminds me of the strong shape of an ice droplet.
Gift for the romantic realist
Twin Acorn Pendant
I read Thomas Hardy's 'Far from the Madding Crowd' many years ago and I'm about to re-read it again in January with my book club. I think this Twin Acorn Pendant would be the perfect gift for Gabriel Oak to give Bathsheba Everdene.
Gift for the strong and independent
Urchin Necklace
Inspired by a more fashion-forward version of Penelope Keeling in 'The Shell Seekers' by Rosamunde Pilcher - I think this Urchin necklace would make the perfect gift from her true love Richard Lomax.
Nostalgic Gift for a Friend or Loved One
Daisy Chain Necklace
I really enjoyed reading 'The Paper Palace' by Miranda Cowley Heller and think the book's heroine Elle, who has a love affair with her childhood friend/sweetheart, would love wearing my Daisy Chain necklace.
